Recordings of both the Celebration of Excellence and this year’s Recognition Lunch are now available for viewing on the OAA’s YouTube Channel.
The OAA Recognition Lunch, hosted by broadcaster and author Andrea Bain, took place at the Beanfield Centre, celebrating contributions and contributors to Ontario’s architecture profession. The event included the year’s induction to the OAA Honour Roll, celebration of the 2021 Honorary Members, and the winners of the OAA Technology Program Student Awards. It also honoured the recipients of the G. Randy Roberts Service Award, the Order of da Vinci, and Lifetime Design Achievement.
The Celebration of Excellence was hosted by Amber Mac at the Toronto Event Centre. In addition to the Design Excellence Awards, the event unveiled the winners of the People’s Choice Award, the Michael V. and Wanda Plachta Award, and the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Design Excellence in Architecture. It also included a special greeting from Her Honour, the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
Additionally, a recording of the OAA Plenary, “Beyond Net-Zero: Building Positive Futures through Regenerative Architecture and Design,” is now available. With some estimates suggesting buildings are responsible for nearly 40 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions, the architecture profession has a duty to the public to find better ways to build in support of Climate Action. This talk, moderated by writer and educator Shawn Micallef, features global experts Craig Applegath, Nina-Marie Lister, and Michael Pawlyn in discussion. While the original event was hybrid in approach, the YouTube post is best enjoyed as an audio experience.
