Ford Issues ‘Warning Shot’ to Architects Over U.S. Building Specs as Province Weaponizes ‘Buy Ontario’ Laws

Speaking at a major housing infrastructure announcement in Vaughan last Wednesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed mounting frustration with Architects, engineers, and other designers who mandate imported products when domestic equivalents exist. He issued a stern warning against specifying American building materials on public projects, arguing these choices are undermining the province’s local procurement laws.
