In Novae Res Urbis Toronto, senior reporter Lana Hall explores how one of the Ontario Association of Architects' winning SHIFT2025 Challenge entries reimagines the redevelopment of Swansea Mews, a public housing site, with a focus on integrating nature into an urban context.
The proposal, submitted by David Peterson Architect, envisions the Swansea Mews’ redevelopment as entailing the construction of a series of pre-fabricated mid-rise residential buildings on the site with a naturalized park at its heart.
The SHIFT Challenge, an annual competition, encourages architects to develop sustainable solutions to address climate change and evolving societal needs, with this year’s theme centered on ‘Reshaping Communities.’
