1 ConEd Learning Hour
Hosted by Brampton Brick Limited
Recent events have caused us to better utilize our community space. This presentation shows how the woonerf, which was first introduced in the Netherlands in the 1960s and is being used in varying forms throughout the world today, can create more efficient use of space and improve quality of life.
Learning Objectives:
1. Define the woonerf concept, and provide distinction between it and a shopping street.
2. Discuss how woonerven are used to create efficient use of space and improved quality of life.
3. Review the different components of a woonerf, and provide existing examples to show how things should, and should not, be done.
4. Identify sections of Ontario’s Accessibility Standard that apply to woonerven, and detail how paver and slab systems can be properly designed to meet these standards.
