1.5 ConEd Learning Hours
Daphne Cockwell Health Science Complex at Ryerson University is the first vertical campus in Canada, combining research and teaching for the departments of midwifery, nutrition, nursing and public health with a 332 bed student residence, student amenities, a digital fabrication suite, and a rooftop urban farm, all within a hyper dense 28 story format. Connect with Design Architect Andrew Frontini and Facilities Manager Paul Chung for a guided exploration of Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex (DCHSC). The tour will provide an overview of the design process behind Ryerson’s most ambitious build to date, as well as the unique technical and jurisdictional challenges that the project team faced. The tour will explore the building’s exterior and integration into the urban context as well as the complex’s attenuated vertical public realm and key program spaces. The tour will explain the material choices and building systems that contribute to occupant health and wellbeing as well as a culture focused on sustainability and inclusion.
