Municipalities—The Ultimate Design Challenge: Recommendations on Official Plans and Zoning Bylaws

1.5  ConEd Learning Hours
1.5 AIA LU

As we look for approaches to take Ontario’s built environment to net zero, we also need to find ways to encourage municipalities to adopt a more sustainable approach. How can we push buildings to net zero when the municipalities and the codes are not caught up? What are municipalities doing to incorporate creative thinking and innovative design into the projects they champion? How can we prove sustainable design is financially feasible and affordable while adding value and quality? This panel discussion explores how the architecture community can collaborate with others to incorporate sustainable concepts in design.

Learning Objectives:

1. Encourage municipalities to adopt a more sustainable approach.
2. Facilitate sustainable design for architects and end users, and learn how to encourage users to adopt a sustainable approach.
3. Demonstrate that sustainable design is financially feasible and can be affordable while adding value and quality.
4. Gain support from the architects' community to incorporate sustainable concepts in their designs.
