It Is Material: Circular Economy Approaches, Material Efficiency Strategies, Deconstruction, and Material Recycling to Net Zero

1.5 ConEd Learning Hours
1.5 AIA LU

According to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) International Resource Panel, G7 countries could use material efficiency strategies, including the use of recycled materials to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the material cycle of residential buildings by 80 to 100 per cent in 2050.

To reach this potential, we need to think differently about how we design and the materials that we use. In this session, we will discuss the benefits and challenges of repurposing waste materials, examine smart demolition/deconstruction practices, and explore circular economy strategies.

Learning Objectives:

1. Discover smart demolition/deconstruction practices.
2. Understand the benefits and challenges with repurposing waste materials.
3. Discuss opportunities to create a circular economy in the design and construction process.
4. Explore alternative approaches to waste management and opportunities to create inherent value in materials.
