1.5 ConEd Learning Hours
10:45 a.m. ‐ 12:15 p.m.
Join this session to learn about a recent student townhouse case study completed in 2023 by Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. The team consulted on enclosure retrofit strategies using five different insulation manufacturers, different types of insulation, a variety of HVAC equipment, and future performance monitoring. This cold‐climate, net‐zero ready retrofit project included a variety of monitored enclosure strategies and HVAC equipment to help inform the industry for the impending deep energy retrofit boom to meet national and global energy targets. It will also discuss some lessons learned and provide enclosure details to help reduce the time and costs for others when considering deep energy retrofit projects.
Learning Objectives
1. Define how requirements are determined for meeting net‐zero‐ready criteria for a deep energy retrofit.
2. Recognize critical enclosure details for high‐performance retrofit enclosures.
3. Compare the material properties of different exterior insulation materials.
4. Identify the advantages and disadvantages of different heating systems.
