Systems Thinking in Ventilated Facades

Hosted by Facade Systems Inc

Location: Laurentian Main campus, room C-301

“Systems thinking” can make a step function improvement in ventilated façades versus the status quo of a jigsaw puzzle of components and ambiguous responsibilities. What a mess! Risk, cost, back charges, schedule… there must be a better way!

We'll explore subsystems and fibre cement cladding.

Learning Objectives

  1. Compare systems thinking (an integrated approach) to component thinking (a jigsaw puzzle approach) in terms of the impacts on the design and construction of ventilated facades.
  2. Learn about how 'design precision' is different from 'design assist.'
  3. Learn about how bespoke facade design is better than a one-size-fits-all approach.
  4. Gain understanding via a deep dive in subsystems, and a common cladding option: fibre cement; learn how systems thinking can meet goals above with predictable performance, clear ownership, and overall project satisfaction.
