TSA Technical Series: Maintaining your Envelope’s Insurance Coverage

Water ingress has long been one of the major sources of claims against Canadian architects. In the 1990s—in no small part as a response to the “Leaky Condo” crisis—many insurance providers, including Ontario’s Pro-Demnity, established a set of technical requirements that need to be followed to secure coverage for professional liability claims related to water ingress. Understanding and following these technical requirements is critical to protecting your practice.

Join the TSA and Stephanie Martin of MTE Consultants and the Building Science Association of Ontario (BSAO) for an overview of Pro-Demnity’s recently-updated technical requirements for exterior above-grade wall systems, specifically looking at Window Wall systems and Precast Concrete exterior wall systems, and a set of new provisions addressing Insulated Metal Panels (IMPs). We’ll break down what the updated requirements mean for your practice, how they impact project risk, and what you need to know to stay compliant.
