As buildings are one of the primary sources of energy consumption and emissions today, architects can play a transformative role in addressing climate change by designing buildings that operate with far less energy. From a business perspective, these approaches can also improve the bottom line for building owners by lowering operating costs.
Well-known for its durability, resiliency, versatility, and energy efficiency, concrete can contribute to reducing a building’s global warming potential by up to 70% when coupled with smart energy strategies.
This seminar will discuss advances in concrete’s contribution to energy efficiency and sustainability. Specifically, it will explore the potential for reducing energy use and GHGs from buildings by utilizing concrete’s thermal mass in conjunction with innovative yet proven energy reduction strategies; concrete’s performance in lifecycle assessment studies; and real-life examples of energy savings achieved.
