Introduction to Climate Risk and Resilience: On-Demand Course from ULI

Learn how developers, designers, and policymakers are reducing the impacts of climate change while enhancing economic stability and social outcomes. This class will touch on specific climate science fundamentals; climate-related hazards, such as extreme heat, flooding, drought and wildfires; the business case for resilience; and financing and policy considerations. This course will also include adaptation and resilience strategies and a session highlighting real world case study examples. Attendees will also be introduced to research conducted by the ULI Urban Resilience program in coordination with ULI members who are climate resilience leaders and practitioners.

This course consists of pre-recorded video lectures and other materials. You can access your on-demand materials as soon as your registration is complete.   • Wind protection
  • Emergency management
  • Building and building system flood protection
  • Green and gray infrastructure
  • Roof covering and drainage
  • Building ventilation and indoor air quality
  • Passive/active building systems
  • Potable and reclaimed water systems

Instructor:
Nicholas B. Rajkovich, PhD, AIA is an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. He is also a Senior Technical Consultant at Resource Refocus, LLC in Berkeley, California. His research focuses primarily on the intersection among energy efficiency, adaptation to climate change, and the built environment. Dr. Rajkovich is currently the buildings sector co-chair for the New York State Climate Impacts Assessment. He has also been asked to provide support to professional organizations like the American Institute of Architects and the U.S. Green Building Council.
