Session Abstract:
Exploring two unique Ottawa child care projects. Forest Explorers Outdoor Early Learning Centre in the Ottawa greenbelt serves as a demonstration site for outdoor play practice, research, and policy. This innovative centre provides 73 licensed childcare spaces with the goal of spending more than 50% of their day outdoors in nature. Perley Childcare will be fully integrated into the Perley Health long-term care home, providing intergenerational experiences benefitting both seniors and children.

About the Speaker:
Jessie Smith, Principal, CSV Architects
Jessie Smith is a Principal with a wide range of experience delivering sustainably designed spaces. With over 15 years of experience, she has contributed to the design of some of the firm’s most noteworthy and award-winning projects.
Over the years, Jessie has developed a specialty in delivering multi-unit affordable and supportive housing projects, daycare centres, and community centres. Jessie is passionate about sustainable design as a way to improve occupant comfort and well-being. She is a LEED ® Accredited Professional and a Green Globes Professional.
Jessie served on the board of the Ottawa Regional Society of Architecture (ORSA) for 4 years as Vice-Chair but stepped down to spend time taking care of her two young children.
