OAA Webinars on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
Time: 11:00 am–12:30 pm
This session will provide an overview of the Ontario Human Rights Code and the responsibilities of organizations, managers, and employees to foster a respectful work environment and address issues appropriately when they occur. Participants will learn about violations of the Code, the human rights protected grounds, as well as options for resolving issues when they do occur.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Explain the violations of the Ontario Human Rights Code
2. Discuss the legal rights of employees to a harassment- and discrimination-free workplace
3. Discuss the legal responsibilities of the organization and those in leadership positions to promote human rights in the workplace and to address issues when they arise, and
4. List the options for resolving issues when they do occur.
Speaker:
Brenda C. James has more than 35 years of human resources experience and has been a senior practitioner in human resources and employment equity for the past three decades. She is a former federal public servant and has worked with employers to meet their human resources needs and employment equity obligations in both the public and private sectors. As an expert in the field, Brenda has conducted human rights investigations, human rights training, as well as one-on-one coaching of staff and managers.
