The Mid-rise Wood-frame Construction Handbook consists of ten multi-disciplinary chapters which have been prepared to facilitate the design and construction of mid-rise wood –frame construction in Canada. The Handbook covers broad design and construction topics, providing practical solutions by making use of the most recently developed technical and research information. The Handbook has been prepared to assist architects, engineers, code consultants, developers, building owners, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the 2015 edition of the NBCC, or provincial codes based on the 2015 NBCC, and the CSA Standard on Engineering Design in Wood.
The event which we’ve called “Guidelines for Designing Wood-Frame Mid-Rise Buildings” will reflect the chapters of the new handbook. The topics that will be presented are fire, structural analysis, floor vibration, building movement, sound insulation, building enclosure, wood elevator shafts, and prefabrication. The day will conclude with a review of some mid-rise case studies from BC and a discussion of mid-rise in Ontario. This event co-hosted by FPInnovations and Ontario Wood WORKS!
