As the demand for multi-generational living and "aging-in-place" design grows in Ontario, vertical transportation has become a critical component of the modern residential architectural landscape. However, integrating an elevator into a custom home involves more than just selecting a cab; it requires precise coordination of structural loads, standards compliance, and electrical requirements.
Inconsistencies between architectural drawings and elevator hoistway requirements often lead to costly site modifications, delays in occupancy, and compromised design aesthetics. This session provides architects with the technical framework needed to seamlessly integrate residential elevators into their projects. We will examine the differences between various drive systems (Hydraulic vs. MRL Traction), space-saving hoistway designs, and the critical path for coordination between the architect, builder, and elevator contractor.
