Registration Form - Kingston 2030 Challenge is called by an architect. The fossil energy consumption in buildings should be reduced by 60% from now and reduced to zero by 2030, where the remaining energy use can be covered by renewable energy. To achieve the goals, architectural design is the key. While renewable energy system can significantly reduce impact on the environment, the available sources are limited. Well-designed HVAC and lighting systems may provide high efficiency energy supply systems, but only when energy demand of a building for heating, cooling and lighting is reduced to a certain level by architectural design, the remaining energy use can be covered by renewable energy effectively. The seminar will help architects understand what are the effective approaches that can be incorporated into architectural design and create cost effective and energy efficient buildings. The following will be covered: Fundamental principles of architectural design of energy efficient building Available technologies and products related architectural design Impact on architectural innovation and design process (Integrated Design Process) Analysis of effectiveness of additional investment (in terms of energy use reduction, financial benefits and indoor environmental improvement) Speaker: John F. Straube, Ph.D., P.Eng. Registration Form - Kingston Date: November 11, 2011 Time: 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM Location: The Radisson Hotel Kingston Harbourfront 1 Johnson Street, Kingston ON, K7L 5H7
