2012 Ontario Building Code SB-12: Energy Efficiency Requirements for Housing

The new 2012 energy efficiency requirements for housing became mandatory on January 1st 2012. The introduction of Supplementary Standard SB-12 in addition to the existing EnerGuide 80 (ERS80) compliance paths in the 2012 Ontario Building Code (OBC) will require extensive training for the industry to ensure seamless transition to the new rules. The new 2012 energy efficiency requirements are radically different from those in force in the past.  The new requirements introduce new concepts, new compliance routes and computer modelling options. This workshop will update architects’ on the published energy efficiency requirements in SB-12 of the OBC.

Key concepts covered in the workshop:

  1. 2012 OBC  Energy Efficiency for Housing: Supplementary Standard SB-12
  2. ENERGY STAR® for New Homes, EnerGuide 80, HOT2000, and Blower Door Testing
  3. Designer and Evaluator Qualifications and Responsibilities
  4. Cost and Construction Implications
  5. Housing Transformation and the Future of the Building Code
