Title: Full-Bed-Depth Modern Masonry hosted by Thames Valley Brick
During this year’s OAA Virtual Conference in May, the online sessions offered were well-received and provided insights into a variety of topics. The OAA would like to remind members that the 2021 OAA Virtual Sessions are now available on YouTube. This includes the core Continuing Education learning offered at Conference as well as the Sponsored Sessions and Virtual Tours. All available sessions are on the OAA YouTube channel organized in the OAA Virtual Conference Week 2021 playlist. We encourage you to explore these sessions as a suite of on-demand offerings. These sessions are considered unstructured hours when viewed in this format.
At this time, we’d like to spotlight a session offered by one of our generous Conference sponsors. To view the full session, please click here.
One of the oldest forms of masonry, stone masonry is an aesthetically pleasing and highly versatile material choice for a variety of indoor and outdoor projects. Masonry is a timeless material that offers limitless ways to create patterns and forms.
This session with Thames Valley Brick + Tile does a deep dive on full-bed-depth masonry. While today it’s often used as a veneer, this form of masonry has been used historically to construct dwellings, castles, cathedrals, and walls. This session will cover:
- Installation
- Dimensions and bond patterns
- Clay pavers
- Thin brick
- Thin brick for precast applications.
This talk helps viewers to learn:
- The importance of dimensions and full-bond masonry when designing, especially when considering less waste on site and green points for LEED;
- The value of membranes and flashings, weepers, vents, and air circulation through cavity walls;
- The importance of having mockup masonry panels on site;
- The importance of meeting other trades on sites, how to resolve concerns, and how to schedule and coordinate sub-trades in wall assembly responsibilities; and
- The options available for modern masonry installation.
Thames Valley Brick has been a trusted source of Architectural Brick, Thin Brick, and Clay Pavers since 1970.
