A new chapter in our summer sketchbook—today, as a part of the OAA Summer Sketches Series, we are sharing the work of Orietta Quijada (Architect).
Ávila: Luz que sostiene - Sketches series (2014-2023) — In memory of all lost lives in the Venezuela’s earthquakes on June 24, 2026.
Honouring those who lost their lives in the June 24, 2026, earthquakes. The intent is to offer an act of remembrance to keep their stories present and alive.
El Ávila can be regarded as a natural and human way of holding space for grief and resilience at the same time. El Ávila has always been more than a mountain. It’s a boundary, a sheltering wall, a symbol of the city, Caracas.
In moments of tragedy, it becomes something else: a witness, a fortress embracing strength and hope.
Let us rebuild the horizon again, reflecting on hope and resilience; and as the mountain does, let us stand, let the light shift, and the guacamayas (macaws) fly free.
