A new chapter in our summer sketchbook—today, as a part of the OAA Summer Sketches Series, we are sharing the work of  Farzam Mohajer (Architect).

I began working in watercolours a few years ago, adding dinosaurs at first for fun and as a way to animate the static nature of the drawings.

Over time, I found myself struck by how these strange and often whimsical drawings played on my perception. Inserting extinct creatures from a prehistoric age into the scenes has a way of bending time, putting many things into perspective for me as I draw them: my fears, flaws, wounds, and insecurities; my ambitions, goals, dreams, and hopes; my perspectives on what is happening in life and in this often crazy world; my feelings about my own mortality and the brevity of physical life on this earth; my meditations on my eternal God and His presence in my life. All of it seems to lumber out of the woods of my heart in the process of drawing these.
