Architecture Practices: Hariri Pontarini Architects (Design Architect) and Iredale Architecture (Architect of Record)

Simon Fraser University (SFU) sought to establish its first stand-alone art gallery to raise the profile of its collection, better accommodate its archives, and extend an invitation 
to the wider campus and community to its programming. The high-profile site and the building itself support these ambitions by emphasizing openness, connectivity, and integration with the surrounding natural landscape.

The SFU campus reflects the strong horizontal language of Arthur Erickson and Geoffrey Massey. The Gibson honours this legacy through a linear one-storey composition with a long, free-flowing spine that gestures toward Strand Hall. The Gibson also reaches out to the neighbouring mixed-use community with a vision for cultural engagement.
