The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is offering OAA members a 20 per cent discount on admission tickets purchased online to its new architectural design and haute couture exhibitions. Until October 8,
Philip Beesley: Transforming Space and
Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion explore these artists’ mutual fascination for materials and structures. Each has contributed to one another’s work to push the boundaries of design and how we think about it.
Ontario architect Beesley and his collaborators in the
Living Architecture Systems group merge chemistry, artificial intelligence and encompassing soundscapes to create a visually stunning and interactive environment. With a pioneering approach to structures and space, Beesley is known for his contributions to the emerging field of responsive architecture and is influencing those outside his discipline.
With long-standing collaborations with Beesley, the ROM showcases a major retrospective of Iris van Herpen’s 2008–2015 collections at the forefront of experimentation and innovation. From metal umbrella ribs and magnets to 3D printing, van Herpen works with an array of materials that fuse style with science and inventive technologies to create striking and mystifying designs.
Until September 3, 2018, admission also includes access to
The Evidence Room, an exhibition on forensic architecture and its pivotal role in a 1996 trial on Holocaust denial.
