In Memoriam: Garry Roy Watchorn

Garry Roy Watchorn, Architect

June 1, 1945 - December 30, 2020 My Dad was born in Toronto, but moved to the Erin Mills neighbourhood of Mississauga, which he helped to develop and where he spent his adult life. Earlier, while studying architecture at the U of T, he met the love of his life Susan Roberts. They were excited to marry and add to their family, and I (Jocelyn), was born very soon after. My Dad was an accomplished Architect and Landscape Architect, which he was incredibly passionate about. He renovated our home so many times, to the extent that I discovered an unknown secret attic while we were selling the house. My Dad loved my Mom dearly and was devastated at her passing in 2004. To me, my Dad was the absolute best. He encouraged me to be my honest and authentic self. He also taught me that family comes above everything. I will miss him calling me "Shorts". He lovingly welcomed Keith and they both had an immense respect for each other even when my Dad was asserting himself in the claiming of pastries. My Dad has an amazing big brother, Bill, with whom he has always been able to turn to for advice and support. Bill, Maureen and Meghan were treasured by my Dad. My Dad had Alzheimer's and just over a year ago had moved to Sunrise of Erin Mills. Prior to this move, he stayed in his beloved home through the love and support of his neighbours, friends, caregivers and dogs. The staff at Sunrise were phenomenal, I could not have asked for better care for my Dad. Unfortunately, it was COVID-19 that ended my Dad's life but we were grateful to be with him. Please hug your loved ones. We are grateful for the tender care we received from our family, friends and our neighbours. A small, private memorial will be held and a larger celebration will be announced when we are safely able to gather again. Arrangements by Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home & Chapel.
