Changes Coming to CSA Standards Access

Selection of Code-Referenced Standards to Change

For the last few years, the OAA has made a package of 10 CSA standards, referenced in the Ontario Building Code (OBC), available to its members for free. Architects should be aware that the selection of available standards is being changed and some standards that have been available are being dropped in favour of other standards.

There are upcoming changes to CSA’s Online Subscription Service. The migration to the new system, called CSA OnDemand, was originally expected to take place in 2018, but was delayed. It is now expected in late spring or early summer this year. It offers new capabilities, including:

    • the ability to build customized collections online;
    • full-text keyword search and extensive search filters;
    • potential to bookmark key points within documents (or add highlights and notes) and favourite regularly used documents for easy reference; and
    • a mobile-friendly interface.

The new system relies on a named-user licensing model and will require new login information. The OAA will reach out to members regarding this process as the move to the new CSA system gets underway.
