- DISCOVER AN ARCHITECT
On Friday evening, the free SHIFT 2019 Infrastructure/Architecture Challenge presentation took place at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac’s Salle de Bal. Special guest moderator Robin Mazumder, an expert in the psychological impacts of urban design who helped kick off SHIFT last year in Toronto, introduced the seven projects chosen by a jury to represent the inaugural SHIFT Challenge selections.
From cycling networks and wastewater-energy-driven buildings to multi-family living and designs for diversity, the teams presented their ideas in mini Pecha Kucha talks that highlighted how architectural thinking could bring about new approaches to societal issues. Mazumder also asked some thought-provoking questions about how architecture can help combat loneliness in cities and suburbs while also exploring issues of sustainability.
