High performance air barriers and low infiltration rates are essential for ensuring healthy, comfortable, durable and efficient buildings and enclosure systems. Take a one-day intensive covering what is involved in large building air tightness testing, including the technical requirements of ENERGY STAR Multifamily and the Toronto Green Standard Version 3.

Air tightness testing of commercial and multi-residential buildings is required for low-carbon, near-zero energy building codes and many Provincial building codes will soon require air testing of large buildings.

What you will learn:

  • Background of air tightness testing in large buildings
  • Why air tightness testing is important
  • Types of testing (Individual suite, whole building and guarded zone)
  • Common test metrics and how to interpret them
  • Test standards and protocols
  • Challenges in building preparation for testing

Benefits of Large Building air testing:

  • Significant reduction in heating and cooling loads
  • Preservation of the building enclosure by limiting moisture transport through air leakage
  • Notable reduction in occupant comfort concerns

Who should attend: Builders, Contractors, Site supervisors, Foremen, Site service, Architects and designers (BCIN designates), Engineers, Contracts/Purchasing, Building Officials, air barrier trade contractors, all trade contractors who interact with the envelope of a building
