Doors open at 6pm. Ticket holders must arrive by 6:20pm (with their printed or mobile ticket) to claim their seats. There will be a rush line for those without tickets. Any unclaimed seats will be released to the rush line at 6:20pm.
Kate Orff and Jennifer Baichwal will present the 2018/19 Jeffrey Cook Memorial Lecture as part of the Home and Away Lecture Series.
Kate Orff is the Founder of SCAPE and a MacArthur Fellow. Kate focuses on retooling the practice of landscape architecture relative to uncertainty of climate change and fostering social life which she has explored through publications, activism, research, and projects. She is known for leading complex, creative, and collaborative work processes that advance broad environmental and social prerogatives.
Jennifer Baichwal (headshot)Jennifer Baichwal has been directing and producing documentaries for over 20 years. Among other films, installations and lens-based projects, she has made ten feature documentaries which have played all over the world and won multiple awards nationally and internationally. The feature documentary Watermark, made with Edward Burtynsky and Nicholas de Pencier, premiered at TIFF 2013, was released in Canada by Mongrel Media and won the Toronto Film Critics Association prize for Best Canadian Film in January 2014. It has since been released in eleven countries. The Anthropocene Project, Baichwal’s most recent collaboration with de Pencier and Edward Burtynsky, includes two complementary museum exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Ontario and National Gallery of Canada, a feature documentary film which premiered at TIFF 2018 and is now in theatrical release in Canada, an art book published by Steidl, and an educational program.
